ABOUT OUR PROGRAM

The Oklahoma Eye Institute offers a 12 week course in ophthalmic assisting, including 160 hours of classroom lecture, and 140 hours of externship with a practicing optometrist or ophthalmologist.

This course covers the basic skills necessary to work in an eye care office. The lecture program is taught in association with Massengale Eye Care and utilizes a hands-on educational approach where students will learn clinical skills using the office equipment commonly used in the eye care office. The faculty is composed of Dr. Massengale and members of his staff with years of clinical experience in the eye care field.

The student will complete the externship portion of the program in a participating local eye care office.

After graduation, the student will be prepared to seek employment in any eye care office of their choice. The Oklahoma Eye Institute will offer placement assistance for the student, by helping with their resume and as a referral source, based on academic and clinical performance.
